Overview & App Architecture
Welcome to Dark Tunes: Offline Music Player (“Dark Tunes”, “we”, “our”, or “us”). This Privacy Policy explains our commitment to transparency regarding how data is handled when you use the Dark Tunes mobile application for Android (Package: com.darktunes).
Dark Tunes is created and maintained by independent developer Mahesh Varma under the organization JEWEALITY. The core principle of Dark Tunes is to deliver an immersive, high-fidelity offline audio playback experience with an AMOLED dark aesthetic, custom 5-band equalizer, bass boost, and flexible playlist management.
Information We Do NOT Collect
Unlike modern cloud-based streaming services that profile user behavior, create listening algorithms, and monetize playback telemetry, Dark Tunes does not collect or store any identifying user information.
| Category | Examples | Collection Status |
|---|---|---|
| User Identity | Name, email address, phone number, physical address, age | Never Collected |
| Audio Files & Metadata | Your MP3s, song titles, artist names, album art, lyrics | Local Only • Never Uploaded |
| Account Credentials | Usernames, passwords, social media logins, OAuth tokens | No Accounts Exist |
| Precise Location Data | GPS coordinates, location beacons, Wi-Fi triangulation | Never Requested |
| Contacts & Communication | Address book, call logs, SMS, emails, microphone | Zero Access |
| Search & Playback Logs | What tracks you search for, loop, skip, or favorite | Device-Only SQLite |
We operate no central analytics servers, no proprietary tracking SDKs, and no telemetry infrastructure. Your music taste is private to you and stays on your hardware.
Android Permissions & Hardware Access
To deliver offline audio playback, background service audio routing, and lock screen media widgets, Android requires explicit permission grants. We only declare and request permissions that are strictly essential to the functionality of an audio player:
Third-Party Advertising (Google AdMob)
To keep Dark Tunes free for users worldwide and support ongoing development, we utilize Google AdMob, an advertising service provided by Google LLC.
When Dark Tunes is connected to the internet, the Google AdMob SDK may request and display banner ads. In doing so, Google may collect and process certain non-personally identifiable diagnostic and device metrics in accordance with Google's own Privacy Policy.
- Google Advertising ID (GAID / AAID)
- General device information (OS version, device manufacturer, screen resolution)
- Coarse IP address (used for geographic ad targeting and fraud detection)
- App performance and crash logs associated with ad rendering
Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) & Consent
For users residing in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom (UK), and Switzerland, Dark Tunes integrates Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP). This presents a certified consent dialog before personalized ads are loaded, allowing you to choose between personalized ads, non-personalized ads, or to withdraw consent at any time.
Ad Choices & Opt-Out Mechanisms
You have full control over personalized ads on your Android device:
- Reset or Delete Advertising ID: Go to Settings > Google > Ads on your Android phone and select “Reset advertising ID” or “Delete advertising ID”.
- Google Ad Settings: Manage your Google ad preferences anytime at https://adssettings.google.com/.
- Google Privacy Policy: Learn more about how Google handles ad information at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
- Authorized Digital Sellers: Review our verified app-ads.txt file for transparency.
Local Storage & SQLite Database
Dark Tunes stores your customizations and playback state exclusively on your physical device using Android's private internal storage and a local SQLite database.
This local database retains:
- Custom playlists you create, edit, or rename
- Songs marked as “Favorites”
- Recently played track timestamps (for the Home screen quick-access row)
- Equalizer band frequencies, bass boost slider values, and 3D virtualizer presets
- Playback settings (Shuffle state, Repeat modes, Last active song position)
This data is saved in your application-private data sandbox (/data/data/com.darktunes/) and cannot be accessed by other applications. If you clear the app data or uninstall Dark Tunes from your phone, this local database is automatically erased from your device.
Children’s Privacy (COPPA & Families Policy)
Dark Tunes is a general-audience offline media player utility. We do not knowingly solicit, target, or collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under the age of 16 in certain European jurisdictions).
Because Dark Tunes requires no user account creation and transmits no personal data from the device, we do not store identifying profiles of any users, minors or adults. If a parent or guardian believes their child has submitted personal details through our support email, please reach out to us at service@jeweality.com, and we will promptly remove any corresponding email communications.
User Rights (GDPR, CCPA & Global Regulations)
Regardless of where you reside, we respect your rights regarding personal data under privacy frameworks such as the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA / CPRA), and similar worldwide regulations.
Your Rights Include:
- Right to Know / Access: You have the right to know what personal data is processed. As described, we do not collect or store personal data on any server.
- Right to Erasure (Deletion): You can delete all locally held app data at any second by clearing app storage or uninstalling the app.
- Right to Opt-Out of Sale / Sharing: We do not sell or share personal information with data brokers. For AdMob interest-based advertising, you can opt out at any time via Android settings.
- Non-Discrimination: Exercising your privacy rights will never result in degraded features or penalty in Dark Tunes.
Security & Data Protection
We take application security seriously:
- Android Application Sandboxing: Android isolates app data so unauthorized apps cannot read Dark Tunes playlists or configurations.
- ProGuard / R8 Code Hardening: Release builds of Dark Tunes are compiled with code shrinking, optimization, and obfuscation to prevent tampering.
- Zero Server Attack Surface: Because we do not run user databases or remote user servers for Dark Tunes, your data cannot be leaked through a server-side breach.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may occasionally update this Privacy Policy to reflect app updates, new Android OS requirements, or evolving legal frameworks. Any changes will be published on this page with an updated “Effective Date” at the top. We encourage users to periodically check this page for updates.
